Don’t you just love dolphins? They’re such friendly, gentle creatures; never harmful and always ready to amuse. Did you know that dolphins are also known to save human beings from shipwrecks? For some reason, these animals act like guardians to people lost at sea.

I’ve always had a fascination with dolphins. As a child, my room was littered with dolphin paraphernalia: shirts, posters, bracelets, earrings. My one great dream was to actually be able to swim with a dolphin, like that kid in the movie Flipper.

Want to swim alongside a bottlenose dolphin? Want to get the opportunity to feed it? At the Texas State Aquarium, all your dolphin dreams will come true with their interactive dolphin experiences.

Enjoy a Day With the Dolphins at the Texas State Aquarium

Deckside Dolphin Encounter
Get to feed, touch and play with a dolphin during this Deckside Dolphin Encounter! You’ll even get to “shake hands” with them and – if you’re really lucky – get a big dolphin kiss!
Offered Fridays through Mondays, from 12:45-2:00pm. Call the aquarium office or check out their official website for reservations and information.

Trainer for a Day
Wanna be a dolphin trainer for a day? Get to see what tricks dolphins have up their sleeves (or fins, rather!) while working side-by-side with professional trainers. Get to know what dolphins eat and help feed them. You’ll even learn how to train and prepare them for a show! And when the day is over, you’ll be going home a proud bearer of a “Trainer for a Day” certificate.
This program is available every Thursday, from 7:45am to 12nn. Contact the Texas State Aquarium for details.
